Before you get started, please be sure to always check out these documentation files. We outline all kinds of good information and provide you with all the details you need to use Assez.

Assez can only be used with WordPress and we assume that you already have WordPress installed and ready to go. If you do not, please see our section on WordPress to help you get started.

Installation

There are two methods to install the theme. If the normal installation method (1) is not supported by your web host, you will have to use the alternate option (2).

  1. Normal Installation

    1. Login to WordPress Admin and browse to Appearance > Themes.
    2. Click on the Add New Theme (or “Install Themes” tab for older versions) and click Upload.
    3. Browse your computer to select “assez.zip” (it’s in the zip file you downloaded). Click “Install Now” button.
    4. Once it’s uploaded, click the Activate link.
  2. FTP Installation (Alternate option)

    1. Use your FTP software to browse to wp-content/themes folder.
    2. Extract assez.zip and upload the assez folder.
    3. Once it’s uploaded, go to your WordPress Admin, browse to Appearance > Themes.
    4. Click the Activate link.
After activation, you will be presented with several plugins that you have to activate. Do not forget to activate them all or not all of the theme features will be available.
If you have existing content and featured images, you will have to install Regenerate Thumbnails plugin and run it from Tools > Regen. Thumbnails.

Demo Content Install

We highly recommend against using this method in production. Please only use on a an extra copy for testing or experimenting.

Things you need to check to make demo installer works:

  1. Navigate to unyson, pay attention to compatible extensions, you will see Backup & Demo Content extension. Download it and activate that extension

  2. Now Go to Tools » Demo Content Install and click Install on Assez Demo

  3. You will see that the demo installation is in progress.
  4. After the demo content installer did the job, you’ll be logged out because the database is just refreshed. Please do the login again. (Some site will get a notice: Not Acceptable, it’s because your server fails to do the self-logout. Just ignore it, and go to your /wp-admin)
  5. When you successfully logged in, please go to Settings » Permalink. HIT the save button. This action is REQUIRED to prevent permalinks error.
  6. Congratulations, you’ve successfully installed the demo content.Notes:
    1. The images for demo content are from unsplash and Which is free for commercial themes.
    2. You CAN’T SELL the stock yourself.

Theme Settings

This section will show you how to customize Assez theme through theme settings, which you can find by navigating to Appearance >> Theme Settings

Logo
At this section, you can upload your own logo (and for the retina version one).

Favicon
At this section, you can upload favicon images to your site.

Setting Up Subscribe Form

You can enabling Subscribe Form on Footer by switching Show Subcribe Newsletter to Yes. After you enabling Subscribe Form, please fill Form Label and Subscribe Form field.

Form Label will appear on left side of subscribe form.

Subscribe Form containing subscribe form script, you can use any email marketer service like:

  • ConvertKit.
  • GetResponse.
  • MailChimp.
  • Campaign Monitor.
  • ActiveCampaign.

On the demo site, we are using MailChimp as email marketer service.

If you already have an account on email marketer service (e.g: MailChimp), just simply copy and paste your code to Subscribe Form field.

 

Page Layouts

This section allows you to customize for each templates. The pages included that could be custimomized are: index, single, page, archive, author, category, search, tags and 404.

You can set the sidebar position for each page layout.

Except single and page tabs, all page settings have Featured Content Slideshow configuration. Weather you want to turn on or off. It’s up to you.

And special for 404 tab, it has custom title/headline and the not found message (with WordPress WYSIWYG editor).

Design And Color

This section will teach you how to customize color and background.

1. How to change Accent Color
In Design and color menu, look up to Accent Color Options. Pick your desired color, and hit save to save the options.

2. Customize Site Background.
Allows you to customize the main background of the site. From the base color to background image.

3. Main Footer Color Settings
Please see the screenshot below , it’s easier to read the explanations with picture.

4. Copyright Bar Color Settings
This section contains options that almost same with Main Footer Color scheme, only it has not widget title color option.

Typography

If you feel that default theme’s typography style isn’t nice enough, then this typography configurations could allows you to play with.

To enable, please turn the switcher to “Yes” at “Enable Custom Typography? ” option

Advanced

  1. Search Input Placeholder
    This means the default/placeholder text inside the input field.
    Default: “Please type and press enter”
  2. Sticky Menu
    Stick the navmenu when scroll, Switch Yes to enable or No to disable.
    Default: Yes
  3. Sticky Sidebar
    Sticky sidebar that will stuck in smart way when visitors scroll your website.
    Default: yes
  4. Social Share
    This is the social sharer icon that placed at the most bottom of article box. Switch Yes to enable or No to disable.
    Default: Yes
  5. Related Posts
    The related posts will appear in post article page.
    Default: Yes
  6. Custom CSS
    You can add your own CSS code to customize your theme style. Please write your CSS code without <style></style> tag.
  7. Custom JavaScript
    You can add your own JavaScript like Google Analytics code, or whatever you need. Please write your JavaScript code without <script></script> tag.

Setup Navigation & Menus

Assez comes with 2 (two) menu locations:

  1. Primary Menu
    This primary navigation located on top of page.
  2. Topbar Menu
    This navigation located on topbar element.

Creating Menu

Things to create a new menu:

  1. Go to to Appearance > Menus.
  2. Enter a menu name and click Create Menu.
  3. Using the Custom Links and Pages boxes at the left, add items to the menu and drag/drop to arrange them.
  4. (optional) If you would like to use this menu in navigation, in the “Manage Locations” area, under Main Navigation, select your newly created menu. Click Save.
  5. Click Save Menu and that is all.

Mega Menu

Mega Menu used to create an organized multi-column list of links. This Mega Menu ONLY supported on Primary Menu location. Before creating a mega menu, you must install Mega Menu extention from Unyson. Go to Unyson tab on admin menu, download Mega Menu extention and Activate.

Add Mega Menu

To add mega menu to your menu item:

  1. Go to to Appearance > Menus and select your menu.
  2. Expand the item you wish to add mega menu to by clicking the arrow icon.
  3. Check  Use as Mega Menu.
  4. Save Menu. Next configure sub-items (below).

Mega Menu is configured by adding Custom Links to be used as headings. You can use 4 of these headings. Then, a 3rd-level sub-items are added which are displayed as links, under each heading. Example:

Conditional Menu

If you wanna showing different menu to non-logged in visitor and logged in visitor, like our demo page, you can use If Menu plugin by Andrei.

So you can distinguish between non-logged in and logged in visitor with this conditional menu. You can set the condition like this.

This menu only appear if visitor not slogged in yet.

Whereas, this menu (and all sub-menu into this menu) will appear only if visitor has logged in.

Writing Post Format

After you’ve done all required actions when installing Assez theme. Now you’re ready to write your blog posts.

There are 7 Post Formats that supported to use with Assez theme.
Those are:

  1. Standard
  2. Image
  3. Video
  4. Audio
  5. Quote
  6. Link
  7. Gallery

To select what post format you like, you just need to look up to Format box that positioned right below Publish box.

However, we recommend you to upload featured image for each post. So that the posts have thumbnails that will show great in several widgets. Such as recent posts, post slideer, etc.

Assez allows you to use any image size, but we recomended to use image with minimum resolution is 1000x 550 pixels.

Now. Let’s learn how to write the format types.

Image

To create image post format, you just need to create post like standard post and you have to upload the featured image, and this is mandatory (of course, we’re going to publish image format right?). The result on the front-end will make the uploaded featured image available to zoom-in.  And don’t forget to select “Image” on the Format Options box.

Video and Audio

Create a post just like the standard post, choose “Video” on the Format Options box.  To add video content, for example, if you want to show vimeo videos, you just need to put the Vimeo link. WordPress oEmbed system will automatically render the video player. It’s the same way to put the youtube videos and soundcloud audio, even you can embed self-hosted video and audio too,  Just paste the file url to the text editor.

Quote

To make quote post format, just pick “Quote” on format option while you’re creating a new post.

To write the quote post properly, please use this code snippet (you need to switch the WordPress text editor type tab to “Text”):

Creating Pages

Assez comes with 4 page templates:

  1. Default Template
  2. Contact
  3. Full Width Boxed
  4. Home Page

Default Page

This is standard page template, this template will showing default layout base on your Page Layout settings.

If you wanna showing a page banner, simply add a Featured Image to your page.

Dnd it will appear as Big Image Banner on top off the page like this.

Full Width Boxed

Full Width Boxed template is just like a standard page template, but this template will appear without sidebar.

Contact Page

This is Contact Page template, this template is used to your visitors contacting you by sending an email to you or to visitors see your location by viewing maps.

Setting Up Contact Page

First step to setting up your contact page is, make sure you have installed latest Contact Form 7 plugin by Takayuki Miyoshi. After that, please create new contact form, go to Contact > Add New, from your admin panel. If you wanna create a contact form like our demo page, please copy this code to your Form field.

Next, don’t forget to setting Mail Sender, Message Body, Additional Header, etc from Mail tab. For full documentation about Contact Form 7 settings, you can read from Contact Form 7 Documentation Page.

If all done, click Save, and you will get this code bellow:

Keep this code, and create a New Page, paste your code (e.g: [contact-form-7 id="331" title="Contact form 1"]) to content editor, and then choose Contact page template.

Finally, Publish it and you’ve done!

Showing Maps

If you wanna showing Maps on your Contact Page, you can do this easily by Enabling Google Maps on Contact Settings that located under content editor.

Please fill Latitude and Longitude. You can get Latitude and Longitude from Google Maps by clicking your location.

And please fill Zoom size and Info Content.

Home Page Template

Use this template to create a static home page. After you choose Home Page template, Home Page Settings box will appear under content editor. Let’s customize this as you like.

Custom Widgets

Assez comes with some custom widgets. Custom Widget from Assez is start with [Assez].

About Me Widget

This widget used for showing your name, avatar and short desciptions about you. This widget also can showing your social media acount links.

Ads Banner Image Widget

Used for showing advertisement with image.

This will appear like this.

Ads Code Widget

Used for showing advertisement like Google Ads. Just paste your ads script in Ads Code field

Flickr Widget

Used for showing your Flickr photos by filling up Flickr ID.
Get your Flickr ID here

It will appear like this.

Instagram Widget

Used for showing your Instagram photos feed.

We are recommended place this widget on Instagram Footer widget area.

So it will be appear like this.

Latest Posts Widget

This widget will showing your latest blog posts. You can use <span></span> tag on Title to make font title thin.

Recent Comments Widget

This widget showing recent comment from visitors or author. You can set how much comments that will showed.

If you sets this widget on footer widget, it will appear like this.

Post Slider Widget

This widget will showing posts list with slider effect, you can choose what categories that you wanna show and you can choose posts order too. You can order by date, title, comment, random or modified date.

Twitter Stream Widget

This widget showing your recent tweets from Twitter. To setting up this widget, you must create an application on Twitter first. For more details, please visits Twitter Application Management page.
